With Food and Love

ENDOMETRIOSIS IS NOT A PAINFUL period disease. Having a painful period is just one of the many symptoms of endo. Endometriosis doesn’t just occur in people of reproductive age. Endo can occur in people of all ages (with or without a uterus). Endometriosis is not easily treated by poisonous big pharma drugs – you know the ones you see commercials for. Endo causes organ failure and infertility. And it requires surgery to both diagnose and treat the disease and nothing about that is easy I promise. This photo is from five days ago, taken two hours post-op after my second endo surgery in thirteen months. I’m acutely aware of how fortunate and privileged I am to have an expert endometriosis surgeon in Dallas. And when the time comes to have a third and fourth surgery I’ll likely have access to this care again. But it breaks my heart knowing the majority of endo warriors don’t so I gotta fight like hell to raise awareness so they do. During this second surgery I had endometriomas (endo-filled cysts inside my ovaries) removed. I had my appendix removed. And I had my ovaries, uterus and bowels separated from each other since they were stuck together in a ball and attached to the back of my pelvic wall with endo adhesions. I also had a tubal cannulation (often referred to as getting your tubes flushed) to make sure my Fallopian tubes were open and operating. I have four new 1-inch incisions to add to the four I already have. I have been cut up and pulled apart and scraped out. One of the reasons I started sharing my endo story was because of the lack of quality care and rampant misinformation in the medical community and online. This disease (in varying degrees) affects 1 in 10 – but we still don’t know why. And we still don’t have a cure. If you need to hear this – you are strong and not alone. And if you know someone who might need to hear this – please share this post. You could literally save their life. // #thisisendometriosis
