”Freelance work ain’t free work.”

Sounds pretty basic to us. Working for free is not the "opportunity" we often think it is. Opportunity doesn't pay the bills. Exposure won't put food on the table. And working for free sets a bad precedent that's hard to break later. Now, there's nothing wrong with lending a hand, especially if you find joy in doing so – but beware of those who take advantage of your expertise. If you do find yourself in a friends and family situation or looking to create a portfolio try this instead: -Give a discount and make clear what a normal rate is. Along with this being a one-time deal. -Make a deal for advertising, reviews and referrals -Be honest- You can politely let them know your paid clients are a priority and you don’t have time to assist. & always make sure to set clear boundaries and scope. Don’t let anyone abuse your kindness.
